Modifying the Look of Your Smile
If you have noticeable imperfections on your teeth that you'd like to have covered, dental bonding may offer a non-invasive solution.
Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure in which a tooth-coloured resin material is applied to the tooth in order to alter the shape or look of the tooth.
This procedure is a versatile option, able to help fix a variety of dental issues. These can include chips, cracks, discoloration and gaps between teeth. Dental bonding can also be used to reshape teeth for a more balanced and symmetrical look.
The Bonding Procedure
The bonding process typically requires only one appointment lasting 30-60 minutes per tooth.
Your dentist will start by selecting a shade of composite resin that closely matches the natural color of your tooth.
A conditioning liquid is applied to the tooth to help the composite resin adhere properly. Then, the resin is carefully applied, molded, and smoothed into the desired shape.
A curing light is used to harden the resin and bond it to the tooth's surface. This is followed by final molding, smoothing and polishing for a natural-looking shine.
Bonding vs. Veneers
Porcelain veneers are custom-made ceramic shells bonded to the front of your teeth, requiring some enamel removal during placement. While they can be a durable solution, it is important to note that replacements may be needed every 10 to 20 years to preserve their appearance and functionality.
Dental bonding is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require the removal of enamel. But it is important to note that bonded teeth may need touch-ups every three to 10 years to keep them looking their best.
Both procedures can improve the appearance of your teeth by fixing imperfections, such as chips, gaps, and discolouration.
