Please arrive about 10 minutes early so that you have enough time to fill out a New Patient form.
Initial Examination
Your dentist will first review your medical and dental history. They will then conduct a comprehensive dental exam. This exam will include an assessment of your gums, teeth, bite and jaw, as well as an oral cancer screening and any necessary X-rays.
Treatment Plan
Based on your history and the results of your exam, your dentist will develop a long-term dental treatment plan for you. They will also answer any questions you have about your dental health and treatment options.

At Cedar Ridge Dental, we'll help you navigate your insurance and payment otpions so you can focus on achieving your dental goals. Before starting treatment, we will review the fees and financial options with you so you are fully informed and comfortable with the arrangements.
Insurance Claims
We can direct bill your insurance company and our administrative team is happy to assist you in understanding your insurance plan better. However, you are ultimately responsible for any fees not covered by insurance.
Payment Methods
The full treatment cost must be paid at the time of your appointment. We accept payment with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, debit, e-transfers and cheques.

Will there be an initial consultation if I am a new patient?
Yes, you will have an initial consultation with one of our dentists.
During this consultation, your dentist will examine your teeth and gums, and you will receive an explanation of your diagnosis and treatment options. In some cases, treatment may be provided on the same day.
Please help us by providing the following information at the time of your consultation:
- Your referral slip and any X-rays within the past six months, if applicable.
- A list of medications you are currently taking.
- If you have medical or dental insurance, please bring the necessary completed forms. This will help us to help you process any claims in a timely manner.
IMPORTANT: A parent or guardian must accompany all patients under 18 to the consultation visit.

How can I get my records transferred from my old dentist?
Original dental records belong to the dentist who provided the treatment because dentists have to keep all of their records for a period of time, as set out by their provincial dental regulatory body. Once you have selected a new dentist, you can request that a copy of your records be transferred from your former dentist.
You may be required to sign a release form from your former dental office, and you may also be charged an administrative fee for having your records copied and sent to your new dental office. If you have questions about the records transfer process in your province, ask your dentist or contact the provincial dental regulatory body.

Do I need X-rays at each visit?
How often you need to have X-rays depends on your oral health. A healthy adult who has not had cavities or other problems for a couple of years probably won't need X-rays at every appointment. If your dentist needs to more closely monitor your oral health, you may require more frequent X-rays.
If you are not sure why an X-ray is being taken, ask your dentist. Remember that dental X-rays deliver little radiation, and that they are a vital tool for your dentist to ensure that small problems don't develop into bigger ones.

Do I really have to go to the dentist every six months?
How often you go for a dental exams depends on your oral health. The goal of dental exams is to catch small problems early. For many people, this means a dental exam every six months.
The frequency of your checkups will depend on how well you care for your teeth and gums. It also depends on the oral health problems that you have and how fast tartar builds up on your teeth.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Do I floss every day?
- Do I brush twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste and follow my dentist's instructions on how to brush properly?
- Do I eat a well-balanced diet, including food from all food groups, and limit sweets and sticky foods?
- Do I smoke?
- Do I have a history of cavities or gum disease?
- Is my overall health good?
The answers to these questions are all factors that affect your oral health. They will help your dentist decide how often you need to visit for dental exams.
It's also worth noting that you should not determine your need for dental care based on what your insurance plan covers.
